Can I wear my keepsake jewellery in the shower or swimming?

Once you receive your Ashlocks pendant and have it filled, we understand how you will never want to take it off. It's totally relatable and there's no real 'rules' about it either way.

As a guide, treat it as you would any high end jewellery. It will certainly look pristine while you are wearing it but be careful doing day to day things to keep it at its best.

It's not so much the water that will do damage, more like what's IN the water.

Showering will expose the surface to the chlorine that is in our regular tap water. While it doesn't sound like a big deal, our pendants are created from precious metals so care is needed.

Swimming is a similar story. Pool chlorine is pretty harsh as is salt in the ocean, both are unfriendly to precious metals.

Our recommendation is to remove your jewellery prior to showering or swimming to keep it at its best. We do acknowledge though that sometimes this won't happen. So if you do, just give your pendant a rinse in tap water and preferably let it air dry, or use a very soft jewellery cloth.

If your main concern is water getting into the pendant, don't be alarmed. Each pendant design has a tight screw thread to enclose your loved one's ashes inside. In our instructions we also advise how to use a two-part epoxy as an added sealant.

Unique to Ashlocks too is our own neoprene o-ring on the screw thread which gives absolute comfort knowing that water will not get inside.

I'll do a separate blog post on our Ashlocks o-rings and the advantage of purchasing your remembrance pieces from our Australian store.

As always, if you have any questions you are welcome to email or call us anytime. We are here for you !
