- What is Cremation Jewelry?
Cremation Jewelry is a collective group of unique pendants, necklaces, bracelets, charms, rings and beads which have been specifically designed as miniature jewelry urns. They will safely and discreetly hold keepsakes such as ashes, hair or other precious memorial items inside. Each has an opening to a compartment inside for holding ashes and they all close securely to keep your memorial safe.
These special cremation jewelry urns can offer a very personal sense of comfort. Whether you choose a traditional burial, a cremation urn or a scattering of your loved one's ashes, you can keep a remembrance of them with you always.
Having a pendant urn which holds a memorial of your loved one is a beautiful and precious gift to give yourself or someone who has recently experienced loss. The high quality of each piece ensures that it can be passed on to future generations as a very special family heirloom.
- How much ashes will each pendant, bracelet, charm or ring hold?
Generally they will hold anywhere from 1/8 to 1 teaspoon of cremation ashes depending on the design. Please see individual product descriptions for more information on each product's capacity.
- I am organising a funeral through a funeral home and they have the ashes. Can they fill my cremation jewelry urn for me?
We have always found that Funeral Homes and Funeral Directors are happy to fill the jewellery urns for you and we recommend that you contact them directly to discuss this. You also have the option of having your jewelry delivered directly to the Funeral Home by noting their address as the shipping address during checkout. Every order is sent with all accessories needed for filling.
- Is Cremation Jewelry suitable for holding my pet's ashes or fur?
Yes, all of the cremation jewelry urns on our website are suitable as pet memorial jewelry, however if you are looking for a design which features paw prints and other pet-specific designs please visit our sister site, Always In My Heart, for Pet Cremation Jewellery.
- How do I fill my Memorial Jewelry?
Every memorial necklace, pendant and charm is supplied with complete and detailed filling instructions together with a filling kit to allow you to feel as confident as possible about filling the jewelry. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself then we suggest contacting your local funeral home. We have always found they are happy to do it for you and they will have everything they need for filling supplied with the order. You can see our basic filling instructions here (more detailed instructions are sent with every order).
- How do I care for my Jewelry Urn?
We recommend that you care for your jewelry urn as you would any piece of fine jewelry and carefully follow the detailed instructions supplied with your order. You can view some basic care instructions here and more detailed information will be sent with your order
- Can I wear my Silver or Gold Vermeil Jewelry on a Stainless Chain (or vice versa)?
Silver or Gold Vermeil should never come into direct contact with stainless steel, or natural steel. This causes an electrolytic reaction. The two metals together will irrevocably damage both of them: the conductivity of silver together with humidity in the air will cause even stainless steel to rust, and that rusted steel will migrate in and permanently stain or corrode your silver jewelry. This interaction won't be visible to the naked eye at first, but when it is noticeable your jewelry will have been permanently damaged.
Stainless Steel is also a much harder metal than Sterling Silver or Gold Vermeil. Wearing pendants made from Silver or Gold Vermeil on a Stainless Steel chain - or vice versa - will cause the jewellery to prematurely wear and break.
Generally speaking, your chain or necklace should always be made from the same metal as your pendant or charm, unless you are wearing it on a fabric or leather cord.
- What If I Lose My Cremation Jewelry?
It is very important if you are scattering or interring the majority of your loved one's cremation ashes that you keep a small amount of in a safe place in case your memorial jewelry urn is ever lost or stolen. We suggest using a standard keepsake cremation urn or keepsake box to hold some ashes in case this ever happens.
- What is Gold Vermeil?
Gold Vermeil is a heavy layer of 14ct Gold over solid Sterling Silver. The overlay must be a minimum of 2.5 microns thick to qualify as genuine Gold Vermeil. If the plating is less than this thickness it is plating and cannot be described as Gold Vermeil.
KJA Gold Vermeil can be safely engraved without engraving through the overlay. With proper care this jewellery will last a very long time, however if your jewelry will be worn daily over extended periods of time we would recommend a solid Sterling Silver or Gold piece - these will last a lifetime and can even be passed down as family heirlooms from generation to generation.
- Will the Sterling Silver designs tarnish?
All genuine Sterling Silver will tarnish to varying extents over time. This is the nature of Sterling Silver and, rather than being a fault, it is an indication that the precious metal is actually genuine Sterling Silver. Tarnishing occurs from oxidisation as a result of exposure to certain elements in the air, on the skin or around the jewelry when being stored. The good news is that tarnish is easily controlled and you will find this information contained in the instructions included with your Sterling Silver jewelry order.
