Precious Metals Part One: Rhodium

A couple of years ago we looked at our pendants and wondered how to make them even more durable for our customers. We already were so happy with our new packaging and have received dozens of compliments on how fast people received their orders and how beautifully they were presented. We are genuinely proud of our Australian small business.

In our quest to improve we set out making some changes.

We introduced a very precious metal to our range of sterling silver designs. Jewellers don’t often use rhodium as it’s just too expensive. It belongs to the Platinum group of metals and is rarer than gold! 

It has a glossy silver-white lustre and has some remarkable qualities. Rhodium is used in coatings on x-ray equipment, jet engines, deep space telescopes, and virtually never tarnishes or oxidises. We discovered it was possible to add a coating of it to our sterling silver pendants. So we did.

All of our silver pendants are now overlayed in rhodium for added durability, tarnish prevention, and a glossy brightness. As rhodium is inert and non-reactive, it means it’s hypo-allergenic and will not react for people with skin sensitivities to base metals or alloys.

Maintenance and care are simple as well. Just clean gently with a microfibre cloth (can be dampened with water). As with all jewellery try to avoid harsh chemicals, perfumes, or lotions.

Adding a rhodium layer to our silver jewellery has been just another step in giving the absolute best to our dear customers.
